SAINAM Foundation is an N.G.O. fully recognised by the Thai Government, founded in January 2007 and began operations in February 2007 SAINAM is a non-religious, non-partisan organisation, which does not engage in discrimination on the basis of race, religion, political belief, gender or cultural background SAINAM is active in North Eastern Thailand (Isaan), in the SAINAM mostly helps children who have been orphaned/abandoned by their parents or are extremely poor. SAINAM provides educational scholarships, developmental assistance, and medical care, for the neediest people living in the areas where the N.G.O. is active. These objectives are achieved through: The scholarship SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM The INCOME GENERATING PROGRAM which aims to provide needy families with a small business (e.g. fish farms or animal rearing). The goal of this program is to make them self-sustaining and provide some financial stability thanks to the 0% interest loans which we provide. The beneficiaries will repay the loans according to their abilities in the shortest time possible. The repaid funds will be then available to provide other families requiring the same kind of assistance. The CARE PROGRAM, in which we assist sick children and adults or elderly persons who are left to themselves. The program intends to provide medical care and food supplements to very needy individuals and families. The GANDHI AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY (G.A.C.) is a gathering 43 local farmers. SAINAM acquired a new tractor that will be used and shared by all its members. This will allow them to avoid being forced to hire a tractor from the people who are now making them pay far too high price for its usage and will also free them from the huge debts for which they incur at the beginning of the agricultural season. G.A.C. will also help the farmers who do not have large amounts of land so their produce is very limited as far as to the quantity that they can produce. Their situation meant that upon selling their rice they were not paid the wholesale price (about 8 Thai Baht / Kg) but instead 2 Baht /Kg less. G.A.C will be buying the rice from then farmers at the wholesale price and then resell it to the big traders at the same price. The SAO KAE WOMAN’S GROUP gathered together a few ladies (so far we have six) and had them start to work as a co-op preparing/sewing clothes and manufacturing school uniforms and T-shirts. SAINAM is, in this way, trying to relieve the families of some financial pressure. For this program SAINAM purchased four sewing machines and placed them at Ban Sainam. SAINAM will also try to optimize the Thai silk production already practiced by the older ladies in the villages using a very traditional method. SAINAM is trying to bring development in a harmonious way that is fully respectful of the local culture and tradition, trying to avoid bending to the rules of consumerism. “People 4 People Project” is based upon the idea of involving the potential beneficiaries of our help in the working process and making them part of a wider and common project. SAINAM can count on a popular base of volunteers (all living in the villages where the organisation is active) that are always ready to notify the people in charge of special and deserving cases. “People 4 People” aims to become a helping centre where there will be no difference between “those who give and those who receive”, but where there will only be the common goal: to help those who suffer and need a hand. SAINAM is in charge of the entire project. To achieve this goal the N.G.O. organized a working network with volunteers, local government schools and local government hospitals.
