I have sometimes written very harsh words towards us, the “Farangs” (the foreigners who live in Thailand). Actually, it is a well known fact that some of us are not doing anything in this country worth being proud of. However, I humbly confess that my assessments were not always fair and that “shooting in the crowd” is always wrong. I realize that I, too, choose to highlight the “bad news,” neglecting instead to acknowledge that a lot of us are living very decent and respectful lives in Thailand.
I do not really have lot of contacts with “farangs” over here, but the few I came to know are really “jai dee (good hearted people),” who love and respect this country. And, not that I needed further proof, I was happy to witness a very nice gesture from an Italian friend of ours who lives not far from Ban Sainam. Without much fuss, he and his wife went and bought a lot of essential items (such as oil, noodles, rice, soap) for our people.
We distributed these goods among the poor people of our Moo Baan. |
