A BIG DAY FOR A SMALL VILLAGE

Tuesday May 27th:

People in the village are still busy with the “cleaning work”, while at the Mill our team isn’t idle either. But of course there is not only the Rice Mill inauguration for us and we are still very busy processing the applications to join the scholarship program, CARE or the Micro-lending.

And last but absolutely not least, we started preparing the land to build Pa Bee’s new home.

Friday May 28th:

Today I am one of the designated drivers! Me and Tom are driving 2 pick-ups full of ladies (mostly our SaoKae) to Surin where they will make “big shopping” for next Tuesday! I am really just a driver as I really don’t like to shop, any kind of shopping. In fact I bring them to the Supermarket and then I find refuge in an internet café where I can work a bit and have the last exchange of e-mails with the Swiss Embassy.

Now we are really all set!

Saturday May 29th:

It is a busy day in “Tungk Nah”, it is fishing day.

We are catching the “poor” creatures which will be our lunch and dinner for Tuesday but don’t worry it is going to be fresh fish, since we will put them in a small basin where they will be swimming until Tuesday!

The commemorative t-shirts are delivered by our “genius”. Manufactured as usual by our SaoKae (and designed by your own favorite fashion designer) they are obviously on sale in the village and in the rest of the universe at the price of Thai Bahts 200 (€ 5 e Fr. 7.--) plus post and postage.

Sunday May 30th:

It is a pretty quiet day for what concerns the preparation for Mrs. Schraner-Burgener’s visit, but not for Sainam as our work goes on as usual, many new stories which you may read later on.

We have anyway to waste 2 hours in Rattana Buri Police Station because we had to report an attempted scam by some people who were using Saniam’s name to collect funds and ID cards. We had to act swiftly to avoid any possible future problem.

Monday May 31th:

Things are really stepping up today. In the morning we check everything and in the afternoon we travel to Surin where, in the evening, we will meet Mrs. Ambassador, Surin Governor and Rattana Buri Governor, for what is supposed to be an informal dinner.

This is the definitive program of the visit:

Monday March 31st:

In Surin, dinner with Mrs. Ambassador, Surin Governor and Rattana Buri Governor

Tuesday June 1st:

9 a.m. Leaving Surin, towards Rattana Buri (small detour to visit Ban Khennoi school)

11 a.m. Start of the Rice Mill inauguration. It will start with the religious ceremony performed by all Chiefs Monks of Ampoer Rattana Buri. After the religious ceremony Mrs. Ambassador will officially be opening the Rice Mill. Lunch with all the Govt. representatives and our Farmer group will follow, including dances from children who are in our scholarship program.

After lunch Mrs. Ambassador will visit our Ban Naudom’s project such as the Moo Baan, the Soondek Sainam, the various houses we built and Ban Naudom School.

After taking some rest we will go back at the Rice Mill where we will have the dinner, once again with all the people from the village, dances, karaoke… in a few words… the party!

Wednesday June 2nd:

We will escort Mrs. Ambassador to visit Kao Panon Rung in Buri Ram, a very beautiful and old temple, after that the will be heading back towards Bangkok while we will go … normal life!
