Supanat Rungsirigamon, 40 years old, was earning his daily bread (or better rice) as a taxi driver in Like most of taxi driver in Bangkok Supanat did not own his vehicle, every day he would go to the main depot and rent a car for about ฿ 500 a day obviously hoping to earn enough for him and his family. Until mid march things were going pretty well for him, of course not rich but they were having enough to survive. Then the “red shirts” appeared and invaded Unfortunately as things were getting worse his whole economic situation became really desperate so one fine day he decided, also for safety reasons, to come back to the village. They reached Ban Sainam with all their belonging, a plastic bag and the clothes they were wearing. They had no money, no home, no land, no work and, even worse, no future. Luckily for them we still had a house left in the Moo Baan, the one left vacant by Pong’s family (which is now living in their own) and the decision to welcome them in our “big family” wasn’t really a hard one. Now they live in a proper home, Supagit will attend our Soondek (Care Centre), Nattagan will have a scholarship support (but he has no sponsor yet) and this will give their parents some breathing space while the look for work in the area.
They have literally nothing, so we will make an exception to our “no frills policy” and we will provide them with at least some utensils such as a Rice Cooker, kitchen stuff and so on. Anyone care to help us out? In their misfortune this family found some luck but I can’t help but wonder how many similar case we can’t help? How many similar cases we don’t know about and how many families have to face such ordeals? |
