YOUNG, (NEARLY) LOST SOULS

Here are two young men whose lives have already has been at a very dangerous crossroad.  Saksit was one “of the good ones,” we had plan for him until very recently. He stopped going to school and shelved his plan to proceed with his studies and to become a Nurse.

Thanks to Pyanud, one of our best and most responsible students and an active member of the Kropkrua Sainam, we came to know about the boy’s situation and we tried to act.  We went and spoke to him, and the boy was literally “lost.”  However, before I go on I must briefly tell you about his story.

Saksit was abandoned by his parents when he was about 3 years old when he was given away to a temple. At about 10 years old, his grand mother took him out of the temple and since that day they have been living together. However, the old lady she is an alcoholic and so Saksit never had any support from her, they had lot of problems.  And, finally, having no one else in the world the boy lost it.

When we talked to him he started to open up, expressing his feelings and, literally, a river of tears came out from this young man’s eyes. We convinced him to continue his studies, but he won’t go to Bangkok as previously planned.  He is going to Surin College as we felt he is still too vulnerable to go alone to Bangkok, so Surin seems to be a safer choice right now. We also told him about his sponsor, about how much this lady cares for him. Maybe this also gave him an incentive not to give up.

We are trying to make him understand what the Kropkura Sainam is about, and that he can always count on us.  We hope to be able to help him and that he can save his life!

Nong Nattakhun (Bee) is another young, rather brilliant, man. Orphan by his father, he was living with his mother who got remarried. They were not much of a family, and they were very poor.

Teachers of the Ban Nong Kaar School pleaded with us two years ago to take care of him as he was a deserving student. At the end of last school year Bee was bound to Bangkok to earn for the family, he would have left his village without exactly knowing where to go and what work to do in Bangkok, so we offered that he come and stay at Ban Sainam, and work during the school holidays with our “workers group.” He did it and at the start of the new school year he started to attend Kanachiw College in Tha Thum, and he is part of the Ratchapat Project which I remind you is sponsored by our Bergamo’s good friends, MISSIONE CALCUTTA (www.missionecalcutta.it ).
